The Art of Note Taking

We are at a day and age where technology has, almost, completely taken over. Our smartphones have become such a part of us. We are dependent on this small device for everything from grocery lists to recording our memories with pics and videos. Most of us can't seem to function with out them. In all honesty, I don't know what I would do without my phone now. It's almost embarrassing the panic that sets in when my iPhone isn't by my side. I guess you could say I've become self aware of this habit so I've tried to make conscious efforts to just put my phone down specifically for, writing.

I actually really love the action of writing. Be it a list of 'Things To Do', my groceries, goals, or just my thoughts throughout the day. Instead of grabbing my phone and scrolling through a note taking app, I've begun (again) to reach for a notepad and my .38 ink pen. There is something very therapeutic about writing...just letting your hand flow with the words that seem to sometimes come quicker than you can move your fingers. Many have suggested that writing summaries of your day, meetings, etc. helps with your memory and development of ideas for both young and old (New York Times Article - What's Lost as Handwriting Fades). Jotting down details that may slip your mind from morning to evening.

So, take a moment...set your little device down and reach for that pad and paper. It will stimulate your brain, get your eyes off a screen, and could be very helpful in not forgetting a memo for your next meeting with your boss or remembering the lecture points for an exam. Plus, nothing feels better than opening up and starting a brand new notebook...am I right?

What are your favorite things to write? Do you prefer a legal notepad or a Moleskine? Let's chat about it!
